I have dedicated my Website/Blog, to help you learn all about Detailing Your Rides, just like a Professional Detailer would. I have “how-to’s articles, “what is this/that articles”, and “Product Reviews”. All of my published information is geared towards you learning that “you can detail your own Vehicles, just like a professional”.
Well, this article is not necessarily one of those types of articles. This article will focus on what the average car detailing price is, to have a reputable company professionally detail your car, truck or SUV. And YES, when it comes to Automotive Detailing, size does matter! Well, at least when determining the average cost!
I will also end the article with my opinion on if it would be cheaper to detail your own Vehicle. This article will help reinforce why you’re learning to professionally detail your Rides yourself. It will help you to realize how much $$$ your actually saving, by doing the detailing yourself.
How are Professional Car Detailing Prices Determined?
Professional Car Detailing Prices are determined by many factors. These factors include:
- Vehicle Size
- How Dirty Your Vehicle Is
- Service Package Selection
- Upgrade Option Selection
- Provided Discounts
- Unexpected Costs
Vehicle Size: The size, of your Vehicle, is the most important factor, in determining what a Professional Detailing will cost. Of course, a bigger Vehicle will cost more, while a smaller Vehicle will cost less. This is true, and makes sense, since a larger Vehicle would require considerably more Cleaning Chemicals, and Labor, than a smaller Vehicle.
How Dirty Your Vehicle Is: How dirty your Vehicle is, at the time of Detailing, is another important factor, in determining what a Professional Detailing will cost. Of course, a dirtier Vehicle will cost more, while a cleaner Vehicle will cost less. This is true, and makes sense, since a dirtier Vehicle would require considerably more Cleaning Chemicals, and Labor, than a cleaner Vehicle.
Detail Package Selection: Every Professional Detailing Company will offer different Detailing Packages. These different Packages will vary in cost. In most cases, if you select a Package, which has the most combined services, you will most likely receive a better price, than if you select a Package, with only a few services.
A Basic Detail Package should include your Vehicle being:
- Washed (Exterior)
- Vacuumed (Interior)
- Carpet Shampooing
- Polished (Exterior)
- Waxed (Exterior)
- Windows Washed (Interior & Exterior)
- Tires Cleaned& Dressed
- Wheels Cleaned & Waxed, or Polished
- Mirrors Cleaned
- Exterior Trim Cleaned
- Door Jambs Cleaned & Waxed.
Upgrade Option Selection: Every Professional Detaling Company will offer different Upgrade Options. These different Upgrade Options will vary in cost. You may also be offered “Other” Upgrade Options, which might not be listed, on their Upgrade Options List, so be prepared. The “Not Listed” Upgrade Options may include touching-up Exterior Paint, and Dent Removal Services.
Some Common Upgrade Options may include:
- Glazing (Exterior)
- Higher Quality Waxing (Exterior)
- Ceramic Coatings (Exterior)
- Steam Cleaning (Interior)
- Leather Upholstery Cleaning (Interior)
- Engine Bay Cleaning
- Extra Dirty Wheel Cleaning (I.E. Baked-On Brake Dust)
- Extensive Pet Hair Removal (Interior)
- Using Higher Quality Cleaning Agents
- Using Special Care, for Classic Cars, Vintage Automobiles, Boats, Motorcycles, RV’s, or Larger Trucks, SUV’s, and Buses.
Provided Discounts: If your chosen Professional Detailing Company offers discounts, this will obviously lower the cost of the Profesiional Detailing Cost. Sometimes you can work out a deal (I.E. Lower Costs), with the company, if you agree to: A) Have multiple Cars detailed, B) sign-up to a Long Term Detailing Contract, or C) agree to prepay for detailing services.
Unexpected Costs: If you choose to have your Vehicle Professionally detailed, there may be unexpected costs. You will most likely not be thinking of these unexpected costs, because they will arise if things go wrong, when the company is detailing your Vehicle. These unexpected costs may include:
- Damages to your Vehicle. Although most reputable companies have insurance, it won’t cover your time, and aggravation. Also, this could include damages that the company won’t agree they caused.
- Theft, or Loss, of Vehicle contents. Although most reputable companies have insurance, it won’t cover your time, and aggravation. Also, this could include items that the company won’t agree they lost, or were stolen.
Average Detail Prices/Costs
The Average Detail Prices will vary, based on your location, and specific situation. With this in mind, I have checked multiple Detailing Packages, and Upgrade Option prices, in my area, and came up with the following Prices/Costs:
Average Car Basic Detailing Price/Cost: $150 – $250
Average Truck/SUV Basic Detailing Price/Cost: $175 – $275
Average Large Truck/SUV Basic Detailing Price/Cost: $195 – $325
Average Detailing Upgrade Price/Costs: $25 – $470
Does It Cost Less, To Detail My Own Vehicle?
Yes, it absolutely costs, less to detail your own Vehicle. If you initially add up the costs, of the Cleaning Agents, and Tools, it may seem like it cost more, than paying for the Professional detail. However, you will be able to detail your Vehicle, multiple times, with that one purchase of Cleaning Agents, and Tools. Also, a professional detailer may tie up your Vehicle for almost a whole day, depending on the services you request. Your time is very valuable, and better spent detailing your own Vehicle.
