“Sky” in Korean
The correct word for how to say “sky” in Korean is 하늘 (haneul). A simple and gorgeous word, the only one for sky there is!
Heaven is, on occasion, referred to by the word 하늘 (haneul), as you may remember from our lesson dedicated to the word “heaven,” but for the sky, there is nothing interchangeable that you can use.
Don’t you like how easy this word is to remember? If you still need a mnemonic for it, you could try thinking of the word 한글 (hangeul), but the “g” has fallen down from the sky and hit your head! It’s just 하늘 (haneul) now!

하늘이 갑자기 어두워졌고 비가 강하게 오기 시작했어요. (haneuri gabjaki eoduwojyeotgo bika ganghake oki shijakhaesseoyo.)
The sky suddenly went dark, and it began to rain heavily.

흐린하늘 (heurinhaneul) – cloudy sky
밤하늘 (bamhaneul) – a night sky
구름 한 점 없는 하늘 (gureum han jeom obneun haneul) – a cloudless sky
푸른 하늘 (phureun haneul) – blue sky, azure sky
하늘색 (haneulsaek) – sky-blue
옅은 색의 하늘 (yeotheun saeke haneul) – a pale sky
쪽빛 하늘 (jjokbit haneul) – an indigo sky
핏빛으로 물든 하늘 (phitbicheuro muldeun haneul) – a blood-red sky

A word of caution about Romanization
